SECTION / 01
What Nikon documents
Nikon has historically described original-size downloads with EXIF information and support for photographs, Nikon RAW files and selected video formats. Those service descriptions are useful context, but they do not establish the exact structure of the final shutdown export.
SECTION / 02
What an export inspection should record
A controlled inspection should record ZIP names, folder depth, media counts, extensions, filenames, byte sizes, embedded metadata, sidecars, duplicate content and unusual or unreadable entries. It should preserve the original archive and produce a separate manifest rather than modifying the evidence.
- ZIP and folder structure
- JPEG, NEF, NRW and video presence
- Capture dates and camera information
- Album, tag or caption evidence
- Sidecars and non-media files
- Exact duplicate content and filename collisions
SECTION / 03
Albums and online-only information
An online album can be a relationship stored by the service rather than inside an image. Unless the export includes an explicit manifest or folder structure that proves that relationship, the album cannot be reconstructed authentically. Photo Archive Rescue will not invent missing album information.
SECTION / 04
Metadata versus file-system dates
A ZIP extraction date may describe when a file reached Windows, not when the photograph was taken. Preserve embedded capture evidence and keep file-system timestamps as separate facts.
SECTION / 05
How to handle multiple ZIP files
Keep every Nikon download together and record each original name. Photo Archive Rescue opens one ZIP or extracted folder at a time, so inspect separate downloads individually and keep their results clearly identified.
SECTION / 06
What remains untested
Representative shutdown exports have not yet been supplied for controlled study. Album fidelity, sidecar behaviour, tag export, duplicate naming and large-account partitioning therefore remain untested rather than assumed. Follow the research protocol for status.
