SECTION / 01

Why the October deadline matters for albums

Nikon says normal service ends on 15 October 2026 at 9:00 AM Japan Standard Time. During the later bulk-download-only period, individual albums or images cannot be selected. Bulk downloads end on 15 April 2027 at 1:00 PM Japan Standard Time, when Nikon says remaining data will be deleted.

Nikon also says existing images will not move automatically to Nikon Imaging Cloud. Capture album context while the normal interface is still available.

SECTION / 02

Create an album register

Make a spreadsheet or text document with one entry per important album. Record its visible name, the item count shown, a short description and the date checked. Where practical, record filenames or thumbnail references for irreplaceable photographs.

An illustrative entry might say: “Summer holiday — 2014”; 186 items shown; family trip; checked 6 September 2026; screenshot saved as album-01.png. These are example values, not findings from a tested Nikon export. Use only what your account actually shows.

SECTION / 03

Save descriptions and visible organisation separately

Capture album overview screenshots and copy important captions or descriptions into private notes. Include enough context to connect each note with the correct photograph. Screenshots are reference material, not substitutes for the image files.

Screenshots can expose personal photographs, names and account information. Keep them private and remove personal information from anything shared publicly.

SECTION / 04

Label observation and reconstruction differently

A caption copied from the online album and an event name remembered later are both useful, but they are different evidence. Label each source. Do not present later reconstruction as information recovered from Nikon.

Photo Archive Rescue can inspect evidence in supplied files. It cannot recreate service-only details that Nikon did not include in the download.

SECTION / 05

Keep the register with an unchanged source

Create an Archive notes folder beside the preserved downloads. Keep the album register, screenshots and unresolved questions there, and organise only working copies.

The practical goal is simple: save the photographs, then save enough context to understand them. Start with the albums that would be hardest to reconstruct.
