SECTION / 01

Keep multiple ZIP archives together

Keep all Nikon downloads together and retain an untouched copy of each one. Photo Archive Rescue analyses one ZIP or extracted folder at a time, so inspect separate downloads individually and keep their results clearly identified.

SECTION / 02

Build a file inventory

Record counts, sizes, formats and dates before moving anything. A progressive inventory turns an opaque download into evidence you can review.

SECTION / 03

Separate JPEG and Nikon RAW evidence

JPEG and NEF or NRW files may represent separate originals or camera-generated pairs. Similar filenames are not proof of duplication. Exact duplicate detection compares content rather than appearances.

SECTION / 04

Preserve EXIF and camera metadata

Embedded capture dates and camera information can be more trustworthy than dates assigned by extraction or copying. Analyse metadata before reorganising folders.

SECTION / 05

Do not overlook video files

MOV, MP4 and other media may sit beside photographs. Include them in inventory and surface unsupported or unusual items rather than allowing them to disappear from a photo-only workflow.

SECTION / 06

Review exact duplicates carefully

Exact duplicate content can be identified deterministically, even when copies have different names. Identification is not permission to delete: retain the source and decide only after the rescue is complete.

SECTION / 07

Surface damaged or unusual files

An archive entry existing is not the same as it being readable. Photo Archive Rescue surfaces unreadable, unsupported, incomplete or unusual items where evidence establishes the problem; it does not claim to repair them.

SECTION / 08

Organise without altering the source

Preview destinations and collision handling, then write new copies to a selected destination. The downloaded ZIP or source folder remains untouched.

SECTION / 09

Verify the destination

A verified rescue requires every expected file to exist at the destination with the expected size and matching SHA-256 fingerprint. Anything less must not receive a green VERIFIED result.
