Follow the photograph from camera to cloud

Nikon’s SnapBridge documentation describes reduced-size transfers, including 2-megapixel and, for supported cameras, 8-megapixel options. It also documents uploads from the phone to NIKON IMAGE SPACE and special treatment for 2-megapixel images.

One possible route is camera original, reduced phone copy, then online copy. Verify a sample from your own archive rather than assuming every photograph followed that route.

Check dimensions, not file size alone

Compare width and height in pixels. For illustration, 1920 × 1080 is about 2.07 megapixels, while 6000 × 4000 is 24 megapixels. These examples explain the calculation; they are not mandatory Nikon dimensions.

A number of megabytes alone cannot establish transfer history. Record dimensions, format and embedded camera details, then compare a known original.

Review the download choice

Where the current Nikon interface offers size choices, inspect the selected option before starting another download. Do not assume the shutdown bulk-export controls will be identical to a normal download workflow.

Keep any existing copy until a better version has been found and verified.

Look at the earlier source

Check camera cards, old computer imports, external drives and backups. Compare capture evidence and dimensions as well as filenames, because camera names can repeat.

SnapBridge documents an original-format option for supported manual downloads. Availability depends on camera and workflow, and changing a setting now does not replace an older reduced online copy.

Know the inspection boundary

Photo Archive Rescue can report available dimensions and formats in the supplied archive. It cannot reconstruct sensor data absent from a reduced file.

The practical question is not how to enlarge the file, but where the highest-quality surviving version exists. Preserve all candidates while you investigate.
